Disclaimer

By using dLocShare program, the user agrees to and acknowledges the following.

  • Both dLocShare and the map library use cookies. The user agrees using them.
  • We do not handle personal data, only the email addresses required for sending and the current position at the time of sending. These are usually publicly available data. We do not assume any responsibility for their protection or for any damages resulting from their getting it.
  • Email sending is not a guaranteed procedure, so we cannot take responsibility for undelivered dLocShar messages or any resulting damages.
  • dLocShar uses position retrieval implemented in the browser with all its advantages and disadvantages. Accordingly, we are not responsible for the operation of the position retrieval or the accuracy of the position.
  • dLocShar uses the OpenLayers opensource map library, whose terms of use are accepted and acknowledged by the user by using dLocShar. The OpenLayers is completely free, Open Source JavaScript, released under the BSD 2-Clause License.

Location sharing via email system (dLocShare)

dLocShare allows you to send your current location and a selected message to one or more recipients via email.
When recipients open the URL in the email, they can view your message and your position on a map.

This is not a continuous tracking system. It is designed for occasional, quick location sharing.
dLocShare runs entirely in the browser — no installation or configuration is required.

Keep in mind:

  • The browser must remain active.
  • If it goes to the background (screen saver, minimized, closed), dLocShare pauses.
  • When it becomes active again, it continues from where it stopped.

Appearance

If you open dLocShare without parameters, you will see the main menu and a map showing your current position.

  • Clicking the compass icon reloads the page.
  • Clicking any text in the top bar toggles the visibility of the position details.
Opening a dLocShare link received by email displays the sender’s message and location.
  • Clicking arrow button in the top bar toggles the visibility of the position details.
  • Clicking the compass icon again returns you to the base view.
Your filled‑in data (“Message”, “User”, “Email address list”) is automatically saved as cookies and restored the next time you start the program.

Usage

  • Open the dLocShare URL in your browser.
  • The page loads your saved data and shows your current position on the map.
  • The SEND TO button displays the email addresses where your location will be sent. You can edit this list under the DATA menu.
  • The User field must be filled in so recipients know who the email is from.
  • Select a message from the Message list.
  • Press the "SEND TO" button to send your position.
    • The system performs several position readings.
    • If accuracy becomes sufficient, or 20 seconds pass, the message and position are sent.
    • While reading positions, SEND TO becomes inactive and Now becomes active.
    • Pressing Now immediately stops the iteration and sends the last acquired position.
    • The Event response field shows the progress in the format: “Nx+y Tz”
      • N = number of readings
      • x = successful readings
      • y = unsuccessful readings
      • Tz = elapsed time in seconds
  • Wait until SEND TO becomes active again — this means the process is complete.
  • You can review the result in the Event response field.

Additional Actions

  • CLAIM — shows/hides disclaimers and terms of use.
  • HELP — shows/hides this quick guide.
  • DATA — shows/hides the data entry and control panel (hiding it gives more space to the map).
  • Del — clears the Event response field.
  • Now — immediately sends the current iteration’s position (if active).
  • Refresh — starts a new iteration but does not send the result by email; it only updates the map. You can stop this iteration with Now.
  • Del cookies — deletes all saved cookie values.
