Location Sharing via Email (dLocShare)

dLocShare allows you to send your current location and a selected message to one or more recipients by email.
Recipients can open the received link and view your message and shared position on a map.

dLocShare is designed for simple, occasional location sharing. It is not a continuous tracking system.
Your location is obtained only when requested and is sent only when you explicitly choose to share it.
No user registration or persistent user account is required.
dLocShare runs entirely in the browser, with no installation required.

Keep in mind:

  • The browser must remain active.
  • If the browser is minimized, closed, or suspended by the operating system, location updates may pause.
  • When the application becomes active again, operation continues from its current state.

Appearance

If you open dLocShare without parameters, the main application view is displayed, including the map and your current position.

  • Clicking the compass icon reloads the page.
  • Clicking the text in the top information bar toggles the visibility of position details.
Opening a dLocShare link received by email displays the sender's message and the shared location.
  • Clicking the arrow button in the top bar toggles the visibility of position details.
  • Clicking the compass icon returns to the main application view.
Your entered data ("Message", "User", "Email address list" and application preferences) can be stored locally in your browser using Local Storage and automatically restored the next time you open dLocShare. No cookies are required for this functionality.

Usage

  • Open the dLocShare URL in your browser.
  • The page loads your saved settings and displays your current position on the map.
  • The SEND TO button displays the email recipients that will receive your location. This list can be modified in the DATA section.
  • The User field should identify the sender of the message.
  • Select a predefined message from the Message list.
  • Press SEND TO to share your current position.
    • The application performs multiple location readings to improve accuracy.
    • The location is sent when sufficient accuracy is achieved or when the configured timeout expires.
    • During location acquisition, SEND TO becomes inactive and Now becomes available.
    • Pressing Now immediately stops the acquisition process and sends the most recently obtained location.
    • The Event response field displays progress information in the format: "Nx+y Tz"
      • N = total location readings
      • x = successful readings
      • y = unsuccessful readings
      • Tz = elapsed time in seconds
  • When SEND TO becomes active again, the operation has completed.
  • The final result can be reviewed in the Event response field.
